She didn’t know Grace’s schedule anymore and since they broke up, she figured that she didn’t need to. Even if Grace walked in, she knew that she’d still need to move out. The last thing she wanted was for her stuff to be touched, or destroyed, or worse, both touched and destroyed. She wasn’t sure how Grace would react to their break up, but if it was anything like her mothers, then she didn’t want to stay around to witness it.
Whilst she finished taping up her last box, she heard the door to the apartment open. Before, she used to get excited to hear it, ready to run over to greet Grace, but now, all she felt was a sinking feeling that started from her chest and ended in her stomach. “Great.” She murmured and got up from the floor. “I’ll get out of your way soon, don’t mind me, Grace. I’m also returning the key.” She thought about what leaving would mean for her ex, but she didn’t think she was obligated to pay for rent anymore.
