My sister finally got me to watch the Umbrella Academy and as soon as they show Luther on the moon I make some joke about blowing it up (because mind empty just Mechs)
So we just finished season 1 and 👀
Jonny can actually survive his mechanism being removed from his body. Like the body it's removed from stays alive and the heart acts like an indestructible paperweight to outside inspection. Notably, he can't do much but talk when his heart is on a shelf just outside his cell or similar narratively correct ways of removing it. Brian is similar, his heart somehow keeps beating even when ripped out, and the big metal body just shuts down until someone puts it back in.
See, we technically know this is true because of GPTVMK, when we know Jonny is alive as only a head. This aids my pet theory that the Mechs are immortal though narratomancy, not specifically their mechanisms!

I'm in such heavy denial about Bertie so headcanon that he didn't die and after Tim's rampage and mechanization Tim wakes up to Bertie standing over him on the aurora (also mechanized though I don't know what his would be) and Bertie's just liked "you could've checked my pulse first"
