Women's life in Athens
I recently overheard some women talking about what life is like in Athens, a greek city-state. I heard that women there do not have nearly as much freedom as we do here in Rome; they live totally under their husbands and really have no political say at all. However, they do have a significant amount of religious power. Many of them become priestesses, which is a less common occupation for women here. I could be cooped up at home all day doing housework if I lived there, having little say in politics or society at all! I’m so glad I live in Rome, because otherwise I wouldn’t have power and I couldn’t even have my own villa! Even if I did inherit from my father, my property would be handed over to my husband as soon as we wed.
