One of the primary tourist attractions in Iquitos is the Bora Indians who live near San Andrés Village on the Nanay River. During our volunteer program you can visit them and see them dance. Bora people wear traditional bark cloth, made by pounding the bark of a palm tree. Related to the Llamas, Alpacas are also very common in Peru. They are very soft and docile, which makes them a good pet. Since the period of Incan Civilization, the Alpacas are very important for fleece production, which is lightweight, strong, lustrous, high in insulation value, and resistant to rain and snow. Unlike many other countries, traditional clothing continues to be popular in Peru, especially in Cusco. If you visit the highlands, you’re guaranteed to see locals wearing fashionable textiles that serve both as form and as function. One good example is the K’eperina, a large kind of scarf used to carry things on your back. Fun fact about llamas: they don't bite! They spit when they're agitated, but that's mostly at each other.
