“Man, I’m so glad we’re finally here! My legs were starting to cramp.” As if in demonstration of the statement, Rin arched his back and extended his arms towards the sky. Even the tips of his fingers stretched out, as if they could touch the clouds if they only reached a little further. “That bus needs way more legroom. My joints sound like damn Rice Krispies or something.” The trip back to his hometown had indeed proven longer than he remembered, not aided in the slightest by the hunger lurking in his stomach. The lunch Rin had prepared for the ride hadn’t proven enough to satiate it, though Usamaro had appeared content. While the wide grin adorning his visage didn’t die completely, it did falter somewhat as his gaze began to truly take in the sight before him. Returning home was always an odd combination of bittersweet and anticipation, an amalgamation which never eased in its difficulty to reconcile. It wasn’t normal to both want to be there and to never return, to be consumed by memories which both made him love life and hate himself.
Before he could lose himself too deeply in such confusion, Rin turned his attentions to Usamaro. “I’m so hungry. Let’s go to the store, and I can grab some stuff to make us an awesome dinner!” If there was one thing which soothed him, it was cooking. Taking Usamaro’s hand in his, he allowed a brief squeeze that pressed their palms together. “I’ll even let you pick what we make. Just don’t say anything weird, got it?”
