hi i regret to inform everyone that i’m deleting all content on my blog to become a benny/jo stan blog after writing this.

The sky opens up when they’re about halfway back to the motel. And, of course, when they get back, all the spots closest to the rooms are full up so they’ve gotta make a break for it through the downpour. They dash from Jo’s stupid little Jeep across the cracked pavement of the parking lot and toss themselves under the slight awning over their room door. They’re both soaked - Benny’s henley is heavy with rain water and Jo’s gentle curls are plastered to her face and neck and shoulders. Benny can’t stop looking at the way the water drips down her nose and collects in her lashes.

“C’mon, darling,” he says after a moment. Jo’s face is a map of exhilaration as she watches the rain come down. She loves the rain, thunder storms even more - had told him once how, in certain parts of Nebraska, you can see the storm coming in from miles off. “Let’s get dried off, hm?”

Jo turns her face to him, grin only spreading wider. And then she trills out a laugh and shakes her head. “Make me!” And then she’s darting back into the weather, face tipped up to the sky and arms spread a little bit. 

And she’s so young. It’s something that Benny keeps coming back too - young by human standards, even, and certain by his standards. She’s young and alive and, hell, if it doesn’t thrill through him like a rush, like maybe he could be alive again too. Jo stomps her feet a little, splashing through a puddle and there’s the distant sound of thunder. “You think I’m taking care of you when you catch the flu out there, you got another thing coming,” Benny shouts after her, but his voice is warm and etched through with fondness and something more that neither of them will admit yet.

“You want me inside, you’re gonna have to come get me, old man!”

Well, Benny never was one to back down from a challenge.

Jo shrieks with delight when Benny comes after her, easily hefting her up and over one shoulder to cart her back to the motel. They’re both laughing and dripping everywhere when they finally get inside and Benny collapses onto one of the beds. Jo bounces on the worn mattress, still giggling. And when she shifts, it’s to turn her face into the cool length of Benny’s neck.  

 clara hello!! ahh you’re like one of the kindest people here and i always get a big ass smile on my face when i read your tags under my edits 🥺🥺 you’re also an amazing writer, i loved loved the fanfiction gap fic u wrote! and a music nerd like i am?? we totally have to talk about that! awww and u have the cutest cats. i’m just so glad we’re mutuals 💕
