Tonight is our 1st Ram Slam of the Fall Semester! For those of you who are unfamiliar, this is where we hope to form the 2016 CUPSI team to compete in the national poetry competition in Austin, Texas in the spring. The 5 top scoring poets in the 5 slams of the season will each earn a spot on the team, but before we can do that, we've got to put each piece to the test.
WE NEED POETS!
At least 8 of you who are willing to offer up two of their most prized works in an effort to join the team. The rules are simple:
- Each poem must be of the poet’s own construction.
- Each poet gets three minutes (plus a ten-second grace period) to
read one poem. If the poet goes over time, points will be
deducted from the total score
- The poet may not use props, costumes, or musical instruments. A
prop is defined as anything not also available for use by all poets.
- Scores will be based on scale of 0 to 10 - Of the scores the poet received from the 5 judges, we will drop the
high, drop the low, and add the middle three to give the poet a total score of 0 to 30
What happens on this stage tonight is not easy, and every bit of energy you throw at this stage will be given right back to you, so if you want a good show you better let us know! Let’s make poetry matter. Hope to see you Tonight @9PM at Shafer St. Playhouse Newdick Theatre.
