Goodbye SingTel
I still have a year till my SingTel mobile plan expires but I am willing to pay the termination fee or what SingTel called it "Recovery Fee".
I had enough of their bad service and exorbitant fee. The last time they pissed me off was they screwed up my Spotify subscription. Yes, I was being 贪小便宜 so I decided to cancel my existing Spotify subscription and re-signup again to enjoy the NDP offer (I could save $39/year). I was paying $9.90 per month on non-contract basis and they are always constantly giving better promotions to new customers. I did not cancel because the SingTel staff claimed that my playlist in my Spotify account will be deleted, which I found out it was not true.
Anyway, to cut the story short, I cancelled my subscription because 1) The process to link my existing account to my new spotify subscription was screwed up 2) I did not get to enjoy my spotify for almost a week 3) I signed up direct with Spotify and it only took less than 5 seconds.
However, 3 days ago, I received my billing and I got a shock that I was charged cancellation fee of the spotify subscription and $50 for data. When I called them, they promptly waive the cancellation fee (in view of my previous complaint) but when I questioned about their data package, it doesn't make sense. My plan gives me 4GB of data, I have datamore plan which gives me +1 GB at $8 and Datax2 at $5.51. Total of 9GB but I used 14GB this month so they charge me $10/GB. This is ridiculously expensive. I don't even know how did I manage to clock such high data usage but it doesn't matter, I am responsible for what I use. But you know what is the most laughable thing? I asked if there's data package I can subscribe and yes there is, however, it comes with a 2-year contract. Wtf? I am already counting down to the day I can be relieved of their contract and yet they still want me to sign ANOTHER contract? SingTel says there is no other plan for additional data except to pay $10/GB.
I checked other telco and they have data plan WITHOUT contract. SingTel, if that is how you want to keep your customers bound by your countless contract, you will lose them, just like how you lost me. You are not the only telco and consumers nowadays would rather spend money on non-contract phone than to be at your mercy.
And I did my calculation, if I cancel my subscription now and pay for it ($500) versus the new monthly subscription I will pay with Circles.life for a year from now, I still save alot of money (up to $400). Can you imagine how much I am already paying every month?
Can't wait to receive my new sim card later!
