For some young Wrinkle-lipped free tailed bats (Chaerephon plicatus) life is about to end... and the Asian cockroaches (Periplaneta australasiae) from Bornean caves know that. As soon as a pup or young falls from the high ceiling of the cave, the get close and stand, waiting patiently. They know that no parent will come to take their pups back up, so a feast will soon get place. It’s hard not to empathize with the condemned pups, but here’s there’s no cruelty, just energy of life passing from one living being to other ones. Moreover, the cockroaches and endemic beetles are doing a big work to keep all the caves devoid of rotting corpses and diseases for the rest of the bats and swiftlets colonies. #borneo #cave #speleology #malaysia #gomantongcave #bat #cockroaches #ecology #natgeo #darkness #scavenger @ilcp_photographers https://www.instagram.com/p/B_XOXwCA6Dt/?igshid=1nafe6bm6f5jd
