Top Five Golf Instructors
Coming from the perspective of an amateur student golfer my studies improved my enjoyment of golf immensely this year. I went from last years average drive of 165 to 188. Make a few pars each round and putt in an occasional birdie neither of which happened last season.
I wanted to share with you who mentored me on my current swing path as I'm positive you will find their learned instruction extremely beneficial no mattter what type of player you may be.
My current Golf Swing is the result of 3 YouTube instructors who each spent considerable time with Moe Norman. If you want to swing or be like Moe go to YouTube and subscribe to: Todd Graves, Shawn Clement, and Mark Evershed.
I round out my top five instructors of Graves, Clement and Evershed with Lynn Blake and Tom Tomasello. That's because each of them is also well versed and have been mentoring me in Homer Kelly's Golf Machine.
Take a listen to this Oct 3, 2011 Moe Norman interview of Mark Evershed by Ralph Sunnyside.
A few points Evershed made about Moe Norman really stuck out for me.
I've watched every piece of video footage on Moe Norman I could find online. I've putt some of it into iMovie and watched it frame by frame. From watching I certainly know that Norman setup to the ball with it at least a foot behind. I'll have to go back and see if I can see that 3 inches inside as well - that's a new and potentially vital piece of the puzzle.
Evershed revealed that Moe's clubs all had 6 iron lies. He also said that he'd hold them such that they'd all be the same length from the ground. I cannot recall Todd Graves mentioning anything like this.
I have read reports and heard Norman say in the Shankland Interview series that he used heavy swing weighted clubs and I thought he said "E"8. Here Evershed says Moe would increase the swing weight upto F3. I'd been thinking about adding some more lead tape to my clubs - now I'm going to do so for sure.
So my fellow golfers I'll end with a good question that Evershed introduced. How do you sustain a line of compression through the Golf Ball?
