Gold Leaf Gilding Workshop, 29 Feb - 01 Mar, 2020

We are so excited to be partnering with Adrian (@eldeletrista) from Barcelona coming next year! During this workshop we will create two different projects learning all the basics related to apply gold leaf in different surfaces. In this workshop each participant will have a ‘starter pack’ with the material you need to continue doing progress and work like in a regular job!

Project 1 - GILDING ON GLASS

In this project we will learn Glass Gilding using a custom design with the following techniques:

Preparing the surface to correct application of the gold

Water gilding

Mother of pearl

Backing up and triming

3D block with three gradients and blendings

Gold blending (from 23kt to 18kt)

Project 2 - GILDING ON WOOD

In this project we will learn Surface Gilding using a custom design using the following techniques:

Oil gilding

Directional burnishing

Engine turning gold

Brush outline and shadows

In both cases we will learn how to be patient with the material, the common issues and the tips & tricks of the trade.

Course Details

2 days workshop - 12 hours total 29 Feb and 1 Mar 2020 (Weekend) 10:00 until 17:00 ( Break at 1:00 PM til 2:00PM )* *Free to stay on until 18:00 to finish up.

Materials included: All this material is part of the ‘starter kit’ for each student, it’s the basic kit for them to continue gilding after the workshop:

Genuine gold leaf booklet with info about gold leaf (18 karat - 23 karat)

Custom cushion pad with natural leather

Custom burnishing tool for engine turning with natural velvet

Brush from Escoda Brushes to apply gold

Brush from Handover to apply the water gild

Knife from Handover to cut the gold

Workshop fee: SGD840 Without meals (Inclusive of all materials)  10% Discount for Participants who joined Jakob’s Workshop in May 2019.

Location: The Refinery Workspace, 115 King Georges Avenue, 208561 Singapore (Nearest MRT, Lavender)

Attire: T-shirt, Jeans & Shoes no sandals. Please don’t dress in your favourite shirt/pants as it might get some paint :)

About the instructor

Adrian, also known as El Deletrista, is a sign painter from Barcelona. His works are mostly based on traditional Victorian with a touch of modern simplicity. I first met Adrian during Tokyo Letterheads early this year, and I took a basic Gold Leaf Gilding course from him. I totally enjoyed the session very much. Adrian is a very thoughtful and patience instructor.
