Which makes sense - despite the fact that the town was "trapped in a story"(that is to say its own pocket dimension), everything that happened was very real and had an actual impact on these people's lives, wether they remember it ir not. But once the town was released from the pocket dimension, it got reattached to the rest of reality and, in order for the continuity of both realities to not be compromised, both realities got retconned by way of people's memories being altered.

... And that's actually real fucking spooky and cosmic-horror-esque, when you think about it.

Because, let's see - prior to the end of The Story, it was litteraly said by Fakir that it had never occurred to him to ever even leave the town and he muses that it must be because of Drosselmeyer's grip on the reality the townspeople are in. We also see, both in the episode where the Eleki troupe arrives into town and the episode where the reality-warping fuckery is revealed, that the people who arrive from outside of town experience changes to their memories - the same one as the memory changes experienced by the townspeople after the end of The Story.

This means that while yes, Drosselmeyer was in fact the one controlling everyone and everything in town during The Story, it was some other force that changed everyone's memories afterwards.

(And also that you can write several metas and thinkpieces regarding the personhood of the side-characters in the show. Like, knowing what we know, Paulo and Paulomoni might not have even been their actual names, Paulomoni's backstory was definitely not a real part of her life- they're litteraly actors on an unusually spacious stage. Anyway,)

While I did make this all sound kinda dramatic, there really is no question about what at least might've been the force that softened the clash of the realities - it was, of course, the oak tree. Or whatever the fuck dwelled within it, y'know, before it got cut down.

But still, though, that raises so many questions. What was it that resides in the ground beneath Goldkrone? A god? The god? Capital-G God? Fucking... Odin, or some shit? Where was that post that said something about Nordlingen being built within a meteor crater?

Regarding the memory thing- is it bypassable? Could Pique and/or Lillie or any of the other people in Kinkan somehow remember Duck during her time as a human, or even the events of the finale? Also, what was it like living in close proximity to Goldkrone, but like, outside of the story-controlled pocket dimension? Did anyone ever go within the walls and then just dissapear, never to return?
