Snatching the bottle of whiskey off of the counter top and pouring herself a glass, she glanced over at her companion. He’d been in the same position for hours, back hunched slightly with the only visible movement being from his face. The occasional flicker of his eyes or crease in his brow. He was over thinking it again.
"Are you sure about this?" Her words finally broke through the silence as she crossed the room, coming to a stop as she looked over his shoulder. Blue prints lay sprawled across the table, ones she could probably redraw perfectly with her eyes closed if she felt like it .
Flicking a glance at her briefly, his hand rose and plucked the glass from between her fingers and taking it for himself. That seemed to be how their partnership had developed since they’d been placed on this case together. It had been a rough beginning, but once they’d learned how the other worked, hints and signs based off of body language and tone, they’d also learned how to act upon it. This moment in time, for example. For days, the tension in his shoulders had steadily grown, the furrow in his brow and slight downturn of his lip were enough for her to know that he needed to relax before he found some flaw in the plan they’d deemed flawless. Yet he refused to move, so she placed it before him, knowing he would take it and playfully jab. Their own form of silent thanks.
"We’ve gone over scenarios, routes of escape, plans and back up plans. Every single one possible, and you’re asking me if I’m sure?" The words fell from his mouth in a drawled scoff before the glasses was risen to his lips.
"Its the Balors biggest event of the year, I get that Phillipe, but for gods sake. You’ve been looking everything over for the past few hours as if you aren’t sure. Its almost one fifteen in the morning and in less then nineteen hours, we’re supposed to be going through with this. You can’t be having second th-"
"Shut up Vallis! For once just shut your god damned mouth."
Sighing, she reached over and gave his shoulder a gentle pat. “Just think, in less then nineteen hours I get to be Mrs Phillipe Vitello for the evening love. I wouldn’t be slipping up if I were you. Now get some sleep. Can’t have my hubby looking shabby.” With a middle finger salute in answer, she chuckled.
Perhaps they weren’t the most likely of partners, but in the end, they’d do what they’d set out to do with no questions asked. Isiah Balor would die, and they’d be the ones to kill him.
