I mean, sure, he’s a timid and gentle lamb, so it probably wouldn’t turn ugly immediately. Especially if this took place while Godfrey was dressed for his day job. As long as the conversation steered clear of anything that might inspire Haxby to get a bit pious, they might even get along for a while. Two tidy, reserved, respectable dudes with desk jobs who go through life totally unappreciated by their aristocratic bosses, yeah? That’s a bit of common ground!

But if they somehow met at the molly house ... Oh lord. One of the only times we ever saw Godders get angry was when someone even hinted at being “religious and scornful,” and no two words have ever described Haxby better. If Mr. Snootyboots somehow managed to survive the discomfort of being in the molly house long enough to encounter his doppelganger in drag, it would only be a matter of time before he said something ugly enough to set Godders off ... And they may indeed both be tidy, reserved, respectable dudes with desk jobs, neither of them exactly in peak fighting shape, but only one of them went to military school, and it was not the estate manager who falls on his ass after one punch.
