The next day John, the one called Graced by God, saw YHWH Is Salvation(Jesus) coming towards him.
“Look,” John said, “there is the Lamb of God (the one who will be lead to slaughter, the one whose blood protected our ancestors as the angel of death passed over); he is the one who takes away the tragic errors of the world. This is who I meant when I said ‘After me, a man is coming who takes rank before me.’ Before I was born he already Was; the reason I came, washing with water, was so that he might be unveiled to his people.”
John(Graced by God) testified further: “I saw the Spirit/Breath come down from the sky like a dove and rest upon him. I didn’t know him but He who sent me to wash with water had told me, ‘When you see the Spirit/Breath coming down upon someone and resting on him, you will know that he is the one to baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ I saw it myself and I have borne witness. This is God’s Chosen One/the Son of God.”
The next day, John(Graced by God) was standing with two of his students when YHWH’s Salvation passed by. John looked towards him and said, “There is the Lamb of God (the one Isaiah prophesied of, like the one whose blood protected our forefathers).” The two students heard him and followed after Jesus.
YHWH Is Salvation(Jesus) turned and saw them following him. He asked, “What are you looking for?”
“Teacher,” they said, ignoring his feigned ignorance, “where are you staying?”
“Come and see,” he replied, winking. So they went and saw where YHWH Is Salvation was staying and spent the rest of the day with him. By then it was about 4 in the afternoon.
One of the two students who followed Jesus was Man Strong Brave(Andrew), Simon Peter’s brother. In the morning, the first thing he did we find his brother Listening. He told him, “We have found the Anointed One!”
Andrew brought Listening to YHWH’s Salvation(Jesus), who looked at him and said, “You are Listening(Simon), son of Graced by God. You will be known as the Rock”
The next day, YHWH Is Salvation(Jesus) decided to leave for Galilee. He met Friend of Horses(Philip), who was from the same home town as Andrew and Peter. Jesus said to him, “Follow me.”
Philip went to find his Gift of God(Nathanael), and told him, “Man and Listening and I— we have met the man that Moses spoke of in the Law, that the prophets told of! It is YHWH Is Salvation, son of God Will Add(Joseph) of Nazareth.”
“Nazareth!” Gift of God exclaimed. “Can anything good come from there?”
Philip said, “Come and see,” grinning.
When YHWH Is Salvation(Jesus) saw Gift of God coming, he called out, “Here is a true man of our people, there is no deceit in him!”
Gift of God asked him, “Where do you know me from?”
Jesus replied, “I saw you under the fig tree before the Friend of Horses(Philip) spoke to you.”
“Teacher…” said Gift of God(Nathanael), “you are the Son of God; you are King of our people!”
YHWH Is Salvation(Jesus) answered, “You believe because I told you I saw you under a fig tree? You will see greater things than that.” He turned to them all and said, “Truly, truly I tell you, you will see the Sky/Heaven wide open, and Gods angels ascending and descending upon the Son of Man (just as our ancestor Jacob saw them ascending and descending in the wilderness.”

* this passage includes names from Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, and Latin. Andrew, Simon Peter, and Philip are from Bethsaida, in modern day occupied Syria. Nazareth was an out in the sticks, the hill country, the boonies, across the Sea of Galilee. It’s not clear where Bethany out past the river was, other than on the eastern bank of the river in modern Jordan. Tradition insists it was close to the Dead Sea, quite a distance from their homes in the north.
This is the testimony which John: Graced By God gave when the religious authorities of Jerusalem sent their family of priests and temple attendants and guards and musicians to ask him who he was:
Without hesitating, he confessed, “Oh, I’m not the anointed one.”
“What are you then? Are you the old wild holy man Elijah, returned to us?”
“Nope.”
“Are you the prophet we’ve been waiting for?”
“Not him either.”
“Listen John—Graced by God,” they said, “We have to give an answer back to the authorities who sent us. Who are you? What account do you give of yourself?”
John Graced By God grinned, and answered with a quote from the prophet Isaiah: “‘I am a voice shouting aloud in the wilderness, ‘make The Lord’s path straight.”
Some of the scholars who had been sent frowned and asked, “If you aren’t The Anointed One, and you aren’t the return of Elijah, and you aren’t the prophet we are waiting for, why are you washing the people?”
“I wash them with water,” John Graced By God told them. Now serious, “but among you is the one who will come after me, you haven’t met him yet. I’m not even good enough to be his slave, untying his shoes and washing his feet.”
This happened down in Bethany, out past the river, where John was washing the people who came to him.
