Relevant ReBlog #7 Go Daddy Advertisement
I want to point out for those of you who do not know what GoDaddy.co is, that it is a website used to help individuals and businesses create their own websites for a monthly or yearly cost. It is a great tool actually, but clearly the advertisements have been very questionable lately. A woman in a bikini is not necessary in selling the product. There is no pool or beach in the advertisement that I can see. GoDaddy.co is clearly trying to use the “sex sells” idea which unfortunately works most of the time. Another disturbing thing about this advertisement is the phrase “get noticed” written across her chest. This implies that the best way, or only way for a woman to get noticed is to be half dressed, thin, and beautiful. This idea is problematic because it teaches people to think that a woman’s only worth is how she looks, and that her looks will determine her success in life. Also, what about the women who don’t fit this idea standard? The woman in this advertisement is also white, and there is no representation of women of color. Is this their way of commenting on the idea that women of color are not desirable as far as their looks? Hmm…
