India got Independence from British rules on 15th August 1947, however, Goa was under rule of Portuguese. Through the untiring fight against Portuguese by armed guerrillas, satyagrahis, journalists, and some legendary film artists, Goa got liberation from Portugal, on 19 December 1961.
