I am trying to get organized. Having an app that I like to use really helps! I find that Nebo is super easy to use and the fact it easily translates my chicken scratching.
On another front, I have started using Things 3, which is a to do app. It has a lot of bells and whistles. Features I will actually use. I need to review the apps the therapist sent me. I need to work on my focus and get back on track. I set some goals for October. I have not hit any of them.
I am also trying to get back on track with work learning. I have this bad habit of overwhelming my self. I get so lost in the amount of things to do that I struggle to even start. I am going to start working on setting up blocks of time with a single task. Like the following.
• 08:30-09:00 - Review email and tickets
• 09:00-09:45 - Setup blocks for 3 tasks
• 09:45-10:00 - Relax, prep for meeting
• 10:00-10:30 - daily stand up
• 10:30-11:30 - Task #I
• 11:30-12:30 - Lunch
• 12:30-13:30 - Task#2
• 13:30-14:45 - Task #3
• 14:45-15:00 - Relax before meeting
• 15:00-15:30 - meeting
• 15:30-16:30 - Review tasks + tickets
• 16:30-17:00 - update notes for Tomorrows stand up.
Okay, so that is called "Making the Plan". I am really good at making plans. It is the follow through that I am truly awful at. I know I have struggles. I also know that I am a master of wasting time. I shudder to think of how much time waste on YouTube alone. I need to cut back. I have a bunch of books I need to finish. **laughs** Not surprisingly, the books are about getting unstuck. How to get organized and more focused. So, of course I have not started them.
Currently I am watching a LinkedIn Learning class. This class is called "Understanding Getting Things Done and Office 365!”. While it is focused on Microsoft tools, the techniques can be used with other software stacks. Things such as managing social media, to do lists, setting, and meeting goals.
I know I waste a lot of time on social media. I'm always falling down rabbit holes on YouTube. I'm also on Tumblr, football sites, news sites, messaging programs, and other major time sinks. I have to be more mindful of how I am using, and more importantly, wasting my time. I am reminded of this story involving Bruce Lee. One of his students was talking about how you only have so much time.
This time idea is behind the books I am trying to read. In a nutshell, we only have so much time. You can either use it on things that bring you joy or waste it on things that don't enrich your life. The book I am currently working through is called "The life-changing magic of Not Giving a F *ck".
The author, Sarah Knight, has a whole series of books. I call this series the GMST, or Getting My Stuff Together. They are more than time management books. Rather, they are book about not to get guilt tripped into doing things you don't want to do.
It's any easy read. I am just lazy and tend to watch stupid videos on YouTube. I have become the masters at time wasting. I must become more balanced with things. All the things! So I need on making some goals and review them every week. This sounds like a great use of Things 3. I know my Tumblr friends like to use physical notebooks. Let's be honest. Nebo is much better at reading my handwriting than I am. So I can write thoughts here and then auto-magically convert the text to readable print. Yes my friends, I hand wrote this whole document and Nebo converts it to normal text. BEHOLD! The power of technology!
Anyways, I am done rambling. I didn't Sleep again last night because reasons. I did take 2 LinkedIn classes and I also did some work work. I also came up with a plan on how to be more productive in less time at work without burning myself out.
