It is super easy to get excited about coming out and being visible in June.  There is a TON of positivity and images encouraging people to find themselves.

HOWEVER, I live in a state where a town burned down a gay man’s house last year and ran he, his partner, and his kid out of town.

Let me be CLEAR - the neighbors of this man pulled out their lawnchairs and watched the mans house burned down.  The fire department never came.

Last night - someone put out a plea on TUMBLR for a transfriend who literally JUST came out - was immediately beaten up and their legs broken.  They were having problems because this person was not in the US legally, had no insurance, and was not wanting to go to the ER because of getting deported.  They will probably die if they don’t go to the ER with broken legs.

YOU MUST REALIZE THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE AND COMMUNITIES WHERE if you come OUT PEOPLE WILL TRY TO KILL YOU!

This does not make pride less powerful or oppress the joy that is going on - but seriously - before you start handing out advice to country kids online to be out and be free - young people living in religiously oppressive, undereducated, and certifiably INSANE parts of the country (or in the world) - DO NOT TELL THEM TO COME OUT RIGHT AWAY - >  They can be beaten, maimed, disfigured, and murdered.

Best advice to teens in such an environment- wait.  Wait till you are 18 and you can move away from those places.  Wait until you are in a safe place.  Wait.  Wait so you won’t die.
