❛ what a mess we made of it all. ❜

THE AIR TURNS SICK where she gasps, each little breath opening her insides to a flood of red. a broken rib pierces into her lung & another feels as if it’s burrowing deep into her entrails. they tangle, they knot, they ache to spill from her skin & settle with a quiet whimper. even as her eyelids grow heavy & her lips crack upon exposure to cruel, cold air, annette refuses to rest. the incessant sirens pronounce each sensation with a horrible emphasis. her wrist trembles bare —— her electronic band gifted to claire & taken down, down, down into safety. they’ll thrive where she failed.
it’s terribly generous, she thinks, for the virus to reveal its host. to peel back mountains of raw muscle & sinewy tissue like a blooming carnation in spring. from there, william’s pert nose exposes itself. then his eyes, then his teeth caught in a grinding agony. a pathetic & frail figure drowned in a sea of power. she knows that this pain isn’t truly his fault, but she still issues blame with a dying grudge. golgotha saw their daughter as an empty vessel & cared for nothing more. annette was the one left to watch a parasitic embryo steal the color from rosy cheeks —— to ramble helplessly, thinking that she would outlast her only daughter.
neither of them deserve to live through this.
mhm - hm … ❜ annette manages to muster a weak hum in agreeance. with great effort, she drags her body by the forearms to be closer to him ( not the creature that consumed her husband, but HIM ! ), a contorted torso slickened by her own blood. the crown of her head nestles comfortably into infected flesh. it’s burning, burning hot as the warmth spills from her body & her vision blurs before a woefully familiar face. the lab threatens to give under their weight with every passing second.
stay with me … for a while, at least … ❜
