This wasn't really her scene, but Quinn had been craving the company of a familiar face, preferably someone old enough to hold a proper conversation. She had spent most of the summer either sulking or with Beth, so maybe it did feel nice to be out, but the grimace on her face wouldn't show that. While Quinn wasn't sure she would've personally picked the petting zoo, she knew that beggars shouldn't be choosers.

"There you are," she said once she finally spotted the other blonde and approached her. "I'm not really sure how.. exciting this is going to be." It was Lima after all. It didn't usually meet expectations, though she was hoping there would at least be some cute, Instagram-able moments. "I know there's goats and chickens. And I hope that after that awful Netflix show they don't have any tigers," Quinn explained with furrowed brows. "I don't really want to relive that nonsense." 

Sam was used to feeling out of place, a blonde blight in a crowd of unfamiliar faces, but transferring to McKinley had changed all that. He’d lost his superpower of invisibility, but gained so much more. His uncle’s offer of letting him stay to finish his senior year in Ohio was looking better and better. Sam removed his keys from the ignition and peered out of the passenger side window. The party had already spilled outside and onto the street. He nodded in greeting to a few of the football players and winked at a few girls whispering in his direction, before slowly making headway to the front door. Well, that is, until he saw pink hair in his peripheral. 

Where: Stoner Brett’s party — the pool

When: Friday evening, August 14th

The beach ball bonked off Sam’s head and out of bounds. “Sorry! I’ll get it!” he called over his shoulder. The impromptu game was slowly disbanding as couples were leaving to go make out. A fact that only Sam Evans didn’t notice. He quickly swam to the pool’s edge with large strokes, only to spot very familiar shoes. “Blaine!” he exclaimed. Hey, man!” With a bright smile, Sam lifted himself out of the pool. “Where’ve you been? Have you been here the whole time?” Brett’s party was a lot bigger than Sam had anticipated. He could barely walk, barely breathe without bumping into someone and their drink. Water pooled at his feet. “Do you wanna play?” He nodded back towards the pool, lit up underneath with pink and blue LED lights. “You can play on my team. C’mon. It’ll be fun.”

Quinn wasn't sure that a younger version of herself would've pictured  spending the summer before her senior year at the fair with pink hair, Noah Puckerman, and their kid, but she had to assume that stranger things had happened. The County Fair actually seemed like the perfect place to take a child, with the bright colors and loud crowds. There were activities and children everywhere she looked, which made her very grateful that Beth was currently strapped snugly into her stroller.

"We've got a little bit of time before the magic show. Should we get her face painted? Do you think that's safe for her?" Quinn asked Puck, pointing towards a booth set up in the shade, decorated with pictures of flowers and butterflies. The idea was cute, very cute, but she doubted the quality.  "They're probably using the cheap stuff. I don't want the chemicals to mess with her skin," she paused before adding, "I'm overthinking this again, aren't I?"

Where: The Allen County Fair 

When: Sunset on Tuesday, July 2nd. 

“Dude, are you cheating right now? How do you already have two stuffed animals?” Sam leaned his back against the ball toss booth, peeling off a piece of cotton candy with a shake of his head. The sky was nowhere near as pink or sugary-sweet, but if he could eat it he would. Just so he could keep the warmth of the sun inside his chest forever. Summer always ended so damn quickly—and this summer was the last one before his senior year. “So,” Sam drew slowly, “you winning those for Beth?” He tossed the paper cone into the trash and licked the remaining sugar from his fingers. “Or... Quinn?”
