While he may be blind, Matt shows skills at fighting that makes people believe Pluto himself have cursed him and possessed his soul.

Titles, words and places.

Diabolus – The Latin word for devil.

Doctore – The person training the gladiators

Magistrate – Elected officials, like a city council.

Medicinus – Their healer

Dominus – The title given to the owner of the slaves and gladiators, a sign of respect. Like Sir.

Domina – The title given to Dominus’ wife. Also a sign of respect.

Lanista – Owner of gladiators.

Capua – Believed to be the home of the best gladiators in the entire Roman Empire.

Ludus – The place where the gladiators lived and trained.

Legatus – A high-ranking officer in the Roman army, equal to a high ranking officer today.

Ultor – Latin word for Punisher.

Vulcanalia – A Roman festival in late August in honor of Vulcan, the God of fire. Sacrifices were thrown into the fire and there were huge feasts in his honor.

Campanian wine – Believed to be the best wine the Roman Empire had to offer.

Felarnian wine – A very rare wine from what is western Italy today.

Mulsom – A mixture of wine and honey. A sweet drink many Romans had as a favorite.

Londinium – The name for London between 47 AD and until 400 AD

Primus – The last and most important battle of the games. It was an honor to fight in the Primus.

Sine Missione – No mercy. Battle to the death.

Subligaria – The loincloth worn by the Gladiators.

Doctore – Tullus. Former gladiator, now trainer of the younger gladiators in House Alethius.

Decius – Mattheus friend ever since he came to House Alethius.

Ultor – Franciscus. Mattheus enemy, always battling him to be the best.

Livia – A female slave that works with Eira as Domina’s handmaiden.
