The Magic of the Holidays
Hello, my fellow dreamers! I woke up this morning to our first snowfall. Beautiful, unique flakes coming out of the sky has always amazed me. So, it started me thinking about the holidays that are upon us. I would like to share with my readers what the holidays mean to me. Have you ever stopped and thought about the true meaning of Thanksgiving? Or are you too busy rushing around to make that perfect turkey dinner? For many of us, the meaning of Thanksgiving usually means a huge feast, four-day weekends, football games, the annual Macy's Day parade or planning out our Black Friday excursions. The first Thanksgiving, however, was neither a feast or a holiday; it was a simple gathering. The Pilgrims and the Native Indians sat down to a bountiful harvest in 1621. To myself and my family, it means to gather in unity for a common purpose. To share in our victories and struggles. To be truly thankful for life. To be grateful for our family, friends and good health, and to remember the loss of our loved ones. By "giving thanks", we choose to extend ourselves and give to the less fortunate. Out of the abundance of our hearts, we are able to bring a smile to a homeless person as you hand them a plate of food. My oldest son has served Thanksgiving meals at the soup kitchens for many years. A true unselfish act of kindness that brings so much joy to your heart and the hearts of others. Thanksgiving also marks the forerunner of Christmas. In all the hustle and bustle of Christmas, have you ever taken a few moments to think about the true meaning of Christmas? Is it about the gifts under the tree, the lights, the cards in the mail, the stocking hanging in your living room? Is it about the turkey dinner, Christmas parties or the snow in the yard?
