#junothegindog, despite being a Labrador, hates the rain. Will jump willingly into a freezing sheep dip or stinky rhyne, but as soon as a few drips fall from the sky you can be asssured of a nudge on the knee to signify that juno wants to go home. I don't need telling twice so we retreated home, lit the fire and got comfy. Well thats what we would have done had i not had kids. So while i over saw the settlement of sylvanian families in the living room, made sure they had enough infrastructure and create a support network for displaced individuals and finally i let the children play, Juno waited patiently for the fire to be lit. Once the house went quiet it was time for us both to breath a sigh of relief. @ableforths beautiful @bathtubginza began to take the edge off with its lovely vanilla undertones. Paired with lots of ice, @fevertree_uk elderflower tonic and a piece of dried lemon. Vit januari? Här i London kör vi ginuari i stället. I torsdags begav jag mig ner till Oslo Hackney i Hackney Central för att tillsammans med ett hundratal andra mediarävar och gäster prova en gindränkt cocktailtävling mellan brittiska indie-destillerier, nämligen World’s Best Martini 2018. I år blandade Bertha’s Revenge, Kokoro, Lilliput Dorset, Pothecary, Daffy’s och Arbikie spritens motsvarighet till en baktävlings showstopper. Efter oändliga provsmakningar till välvalt vinylvändande på Oslos ovanvåning (om du kan bli alldeles kalas av fem munfullar? svar: JA) var det till slut skotska Arbikie i samarbete med mixologen Francesco Petracci från The Gibson Bar som fick juryn på fall med sin Martini. Jag håller med, deras 55 ml AK Gin, 8 ml Sea Herbs Vermouth, 2 droppar Liquid Smoke samt en gnutta citronzest var min egen favorit också. Efter tävlingen rullade vi ner till vår favoritpub, Pub on the Park. Men det är en helt annan historia. ENLIGSH: Dry January? Try Ginuary! Last Thursday I joined a bunch of indie distillers, top bartenders and some hundred press people and guests at Oslo Hackney in Hackney Central for the finale of the World’s Best Martini Challenge 2018. The six competitors were Bertha’s Revenge, Kokoro, Lilliput Dorset, Pothecary, Daffy’s and Arbikie and in the end it was Arbikie that brought home the title. Good call the jury, their blend of 55 ml Arbikie AK Gin, 8 ml Sea Herbs Vermouth, 2 drops of Liquid Smoke and some lemon zest was my fave too.

Continuing my weekend celebration of @bulldog_gin and full filling my need to singe citrus fruits i put this together. Bulldog is spicy and creamy with sweet citrus undertones so i thought i would give @fevertree_uk aromatic tonic a go as it makes such a pleasing pink drink. For botanicals i added a stick of liquorice and some dried kumquat peel which i attacked with a lighter until it released its beautiful oils! Sweet and full of spicy flavour i will be making this again but i am also going to try it with straight indian tonic with a few crushed juniper berries too.
