Ginger Riley Munduwalawala (circa 1936 - 1st September 2002) was born and lived in Marra country in the coastal area of south-east Arnhem Land. He only came to painting late in his life, developing his luminous style using acrylic paints after 1987. Munduwalawala often depicted his mother's country along the Limmon Bight River as it flowed into the Gulf of Carpentaria and the four weathered rock plateaus known as the Four Archers on it's banks. In Marra creation stories, the flat-topped formations were the work of Garimala the snake, who was a recurring figure in his work, along with the guardian figure of Ngak Ngak, the white-breasted sea-eagle.
