Looking back on this walk cycle there's a lot I'd do differently now, but this was one of my first animations and I'm still super proud of it. Kieran was super fun to draw for this class.

Synopsis: Orphan Maia doesn't see the point of love when it only brings pain: Her dying mother made a bargain with the evil, all-powerful ruler of their world that anyone who hurt her beloved daughter would be punished; her new stepmother went mad with grief when Maia's father died; and her stepsisters are desperate for their mother's approval, yet she always spurns them. And though her family has turned her into a despised servant, Maia must always pretend to be happy, or else they'll all be struck dead by the curse. Anax, heir to the Duke of Sardis, doesn't believe in love either—not since he discovered that his childhood sweetheart was only using him for his noble title. What's the point of pretending to fall in love with a girl just so she'll pretend to fall in love with him back? But when his father invites all the suitable girls in the kingdom to a masked ball, Anax must finally give in and select a wife. As fate would have it, the preparations for the masquerade bring him Maia, who was asked by her eldest stepsister to deliver letters to Anax. Despite a prickly first encounter, he is charmed and intrigued by this mysterious girl who doesn't believe in love. Anax can't help wishing to see her again—and when he does, he can't help falling in love with her. Against her will, Maia starts to fall in love with him too. But how can she be with him when every moment his life is in danger from her mother's deadly bargain?

How does the end of Cruel Beauty affect the end of Gilded Ashes? Do you have a set idea or is it for the reader to decide?
So on the one hand, I firmly believe that readers are allowed to decide about anything that isn’t set down in the book itself. On the other, I am a fountain of opinions, especially about my own writing. So here’s what I think happened:
Obviously, in a world without the Gentle Lord, there would be no demons and ghosts and hideous bargains. Maia’s mother still died, her father still remarried, and their family was still dysfunctional, just in a more low-key sort of way. She still ends up meeting Anax, they confront their refreshingly normal issues together and fall in love. Thea and Koré are ABSOLUTELY FINE, no creepy masks or amnesia.
As I recall, Gilded Ashes takes place ~10 years before Cruel Beauty. So when Nyx and Lux go to the University, Maia and Anax would be already married with several kids. I doubt they’d end up interacting all that much, but there’s probably at least one time that they meet at a party or something and Lux does his by-now-very-familiar-to-Nyx double-take of “oh hey another person that I tormented in the alternate timeline” and she has to take over the conversation while he deals with that.
(Lux is always enchanted by small children and babies, not so much from paternal instincts—though of course he’s going to adore any offspring Nyx produces—but because they are the only people he can be absolutely certain he never hurt in the time before.)

Ser Buck Bergljot has the privilege of being my most explored in mediums character. He's been sketched, colored penciled, charcoal portraited, copic markers, digitally arted, poorly animated, and finally sculpted. I played him at a time where I was really exploring and uncertain with what I wanted to do with my art or who I wanted to be as an artist. I love looking back at all these pieces because I can really see the exploration and development between each.
Its been a plan to make a webcomic series based on his and the Lucky Longstrider's story taking down the evil Highlord. I've got a few goals this year I want to meet, but I think I'm gonna add revised character designs for the cast to my list.
I made my DnD character, Ser Buck Bergljot into a sculpture. He had a brief stint as a statue in game after a mishap with some basilisks.
One of the pieces I finished for a digital painting class I took. I'm not super sure painting landscapes is ever going to be something I enjoy a whole lot but it definitely brought me out of my comfort zone and I learned a lot. Environment based on a location we explored in a DnD game a few years ago.
