Guillermo del Toro was so for real when he made Frankenstein. He really understood the assignment and made a masterpiece that will make queer/neurodivergent/abused children feel seen for generations.
Is the innocence and adoration while he didn't know what he was enduring was abuse
is the rage and outrage upon finding out what has been done to him was not only horrible, but a long time ago and Victor is out of reach
is the desperation and pain and not being able to see the Sun anymore after realizing the truth
is the search for companionship
is deeply understanding that his creator doesn't love him and actually loves an idealized version of him
is finding pathetic that his Creator is incapable of seeing him as he is and only as what he is not
is settling for rage to replace the love that was supposed to be there
and, at the end, understanding that forgiving and letting go is not about absolving your Creator's sins, but accepting and forgiving the part of yourself that's hurt
i need to show this movie to my mother
