May the Forces of Evil become confused on the way to your house.
George Carlin
I have found myself at Big Oak Park in Florida. I was trying to get to Jessamine Lake but my gps took me into a private community and all of the entrances to the lake are gated. I saw that there was a park nearby from my gps and assumed something along the lines of benches, a playground, pathways, flowers…something structured and lake themed. But what I found was something far more interesting. Still and ancient, they loomed and wavered upward. Little posts and rope circled around these old souls of the earth. I felt some sort of greyish, sleepy magic in the air. All was still, everything as it once was, everything as it should be, existing, breathing, living. The trees were certainly alive. They seemed to not move for the air here was quite still without becoming suffocating, yet I could hear their ghostly voices. My mind drifted to Nancy Drew, to days spent outside under the trees in a forest so much older and bigger and wiser than me….and everything was as it should be even though I didn’t understand half of what went on under the sun.
I feel the urge to be here always. It draws me, as though this was my calling all along. My whole life led up to this moment of discovery…I just can’t decide who discovered who. I want to be here at night when surely thousands of souls must linger like I am lingering. For some reason it is not unnerving to be aware of the other world here. Am I not more from that world than this one anyways? I want to sleep in the eternal shade of these mystic oaks. Two girls continue to walk around this tragic beauty of land talking and enjoying the day, killing time before supper, I suppose. This IS their reality, what they have lived amongst their whole lives. It’s hardly unreal. I am red with jealousy and am itching to get to the bottom of this pressing feeling that I can’t ignore. Yet I think this is just part of the magic…
