It wasn’t often that Otogi could actually see the ghost his father was making him speak too. In fact, usually he couldn’t see it at all. He could just feel how horrible it’s aura was. Usually the feeling was so overwhelming that the air itself felt thick and too hard to breathe.
But this ghost was different. Hell, this ghost was cute. Even still, the ravenette couldn’t think of what questions to ask him. What would make him stay? What would make him open up? For some reason his father had been obsessed, now more than ever, ,with getting his son into the occult. The board had been shoved at him almost every day and finally he gave in and decided to get it over with. As much as he hated the thing, today seemed to actualy bring him someone nice.
And then Otogi ruined it by asking the wrong question. The instant the planchette was ripped from his fingers, he felt himself stiffen up completely. His heart felt like it stopped in his chest, his body growing cold and his body seeming to forget how to breathe. There was so much terror in the dice master as the boar flipped off of the table, and before he knew it, he was huddled up against the nearest wall trying to cover himself up for safety.
“I’m sorry! I’m so so so sorry. I was stupid. Please, I’m sorry. I didn’t know what to ask I--please don’t hurt me..”
Too many times, the ravenette had been pushed, scratched, bitten and bruised in these encounters. And far too many times he’d been left sobbing in the corner when his father finally came to collect him. Knowing that he was locked in the room just made everything worse.
He could feel himself shaking as he pulled his knees tighter to his chest. The position surely wasn’t helping his breathing, but all he could do was hold onto himself for dear life and hope that the spirit before him was merciful and didn’t hurt him too badly.
