It may feel like you are alone. Like the whole world, world chodo all of india is against you being who you are.

And I'm not going to deny that a large part is.

But.

Look at me. I'm the typical small town example. Like everyone knows each other by a 2 degree separation small.

And very conservative. Deeply deeply conservative.

But I'm not the only queer here. People I've idolised since childhood have been queer. Older queer people are here.

And more than that. More allies than i could've known. Imagine a convent school. Imagine an all girls convent school. And half the teachers are supportive of queerness.

Also, arta students do have hope and respect here. A lot of them do.

Colleges also celebrate queerness. Hell look up academic publications from colleges. My old college had a magazine celebrating queerness (more open one). I was in a queer club(the most conservative college you can think of. Like. Even there). My current college has many professors who've published on queer issues. Not all colleges are good, not all are bad.

If you go to urban areas, esp Mumbai in my experience, queer people exist openly. My own classmate was one. Most of my classmates there were allies, and allies that did the work.

It will feel hopeless. It is an uphill battle.

But. Remember as the largest population, it will follow that we will also have that many queer people. If only 1% are queer, thats still fucking huge
