11/22/16.
Flying Nun is fully back.Ā They will be releasing the new Bats album next year, and they are in the swing of a slew of new releases - Ghost Wave, and Lawrence Arabia being most notable.
Now theyāre going international, with the second release from Vancouver, BC band The Courtneys.Ā While not from New Zealand, their sound does remind one of late 80s / early 90s Flying Nun (Look Blue Go Purple).Ā And I think Iām hearing some early Go Goās (listen to the chug chug on that bass line).
While thereās only one song on here now, it builds nicely on the songs from their 2013 S/T release.

Ghost Wave are a New Zealand band (they have a release, āAgesā, that I got through Captured Tracks a few years ago...now I found it here).Ā Iāve always felt that you could tell Ghost Wave was from New Zealand (think of Snapper, crossed with Bailter Space, and then a little Look Blue Go Purple), but they have more shoegaze than most (Pia Fraus is a good starting point).
Right now, it looks like Ghost Wave is available through the Flying Nun US site.Ā Hereās hoping that Captured Tracks or some other US/import labels will be able to get this.
By the way, Sonic Boom is the producer.
