Lovely #French #Aubusson #tapestry from the late 17th century depicting the god Pan pursuing the nymph Syrinx. Keeping her virtue, the beautiful nymph runs until she reaches a river and begs her sisters to transform her. As the god is about to catch her, Syrinx turns into reeds. This grotesque moment was very common at that time and was depicted by the French painter Jean-Francois de Troy in 1724, in a painting currently on display at the Getty Center (detail).
