Its always awkward to be in the middle of a fight and for me what happened just last week was even more awkward.

We were at a celebration for a colleague who is moving to a city across the bridge and thus leaving his job as well. He is by far one of the most amazing individuals I’ve ever met and am sad to see him go. At his celebration where many people gathered for a very well thought out IEP meeting(with the “student” being him) so happened to attend both my boss and my cohort content specialist(who is also like my boss)

As we were sitting there we talked theoretically about people leaving and moving on to make themselves the best in their careers as they could and the topic of several Content Specialist positions being open. 

I had mentioned to a friend that I was interested in doing this position although not yet and who knows how the cards will play out, I could get my PhD first and then come back for that but whatever.

So this friend who is also there gestures at this point about the open positions like “see there’s opportunity now”.

And my boss freaks out, as well as the content specialist. The conversation went like this:

CS: Yup well, hopefully we get qualified people to step up from our schools.

Boss: Well “qualified people”(gesturing to me) can also stay at our schools.

CS: Well, people need to make choices that are going to make them happy.

Boss: People can be happy where they are.

CS: People sometimes need to seek what makes them happy.

Boss: I’ll make her happy.

[Me in the background, blushing furiously, unable to fully process that OMG there are two very important people talking about wanting me[in a professional way] right in front of me]

So this is me, making a promise to myself via the void that is the internet:

I want to be a content specialist/work as a SPED admin/Deaf admin and thus

in this order plan to take over the world:

1) Clear my current credential/get multiple subject credential(potentially)

2) Get an admin credential

3) Work in SFUSD for the next fivish more years

4) Work at a school for the Deaf for then the next threeish after that

5) Acquire a PhD at Gallaudet University via the PEN program

at which point I will be able to kick ass all the time and be Dr. Manjarrez.
