Congratudolences on SBR anime announcement

In chapter 74 of SBR I always wondered why Hot Pants calls Gets Up “S.S. Brown” in this scene because it makes no sense for her to call her horse that and I wanted to do some digging on why this was.

I always assumed Araki forgot Gets Up’s name and just used “S.S. Brown” instead. But there is actual reason behind why he wrote it like that. So in the Japanese version she refers to Gets Up as “Brown-go”. The kanji 号 (go) she uses is used to signify that it’s a nickname.

So if your name was like: Alexander and you went by Alex, your ID and things would say Alex-号 to show that that’s your nickname and not your actual name.

And here in the Japanese she doesn’t refer to Gets Up as “S.S. Brown.” She refers to him as just “Brown.” (I’m assuming this is just a translation error) And I’m like… why Brown? That’s such a random nickname. But then I remembered Hot Pants & Gets Up are both songs sung by James Brown. And I’m like oooohhhh we’re doing that. So yeah, Gets Up is legally registered as Gets Up but Hot Pants nicknames him Brown because of singer James Brown. Which is actually kind of cute cause I don’t think any other racer nicknames their horse (at least that I can think of).
