thinking about Gil being there for Lutz's first death. he's young, still. he's been struck down by complete, freak accident. kicked in the head by a horse, or something. and Gil can only cradle the little shattered body and wait for him to come back. holding it close until it mends and stirs and he welcomes it back softly, tenderly beckoning the boy back from the dreamless place beyond. it won't always be this peaceful, but. it's not a bad way to come back for the first time. for now he's safe, gasping and shuddering back to life into his brother-kingdom's arms. in a few decades when the empire is shot and burned and gassed and shelled to pieces he'll have to get used to waking up alone. his first death was a coming of age, this is just another.

this is so self-indulgent but i love imagining a dysfunctional friendship between alfred and ludwig. like they are friends, truly - if only alfred stops asking how gil is, is gil still single, does gil still remember him, 'can you fix me up with your brother?' and lud already can't handle alfred and his unorthodox work ethics and conference mannerisms, he is one bad day away from wringing alfred's neck. meanwhile, alfred thinks that he and lud are so much alike, that they pine for the same people, and those people are essentially motherly brother figures who they want to possess and at the same time stay away from. And that he thinks luds silence is an invitation to just talk more about his feelings.
