“They live among us”: german punks during the 1983 “Chaostage” (Chaos Days) annual punk meeting of thousands of punks, a sort of gathering of the punk tribes in the early '80s West Germany, as documented by Dirk Eisermann.
It initially started out as a protest against police plans to organise an official registry of everyone deemed “punk” in those days and even gave the rest of the community the chance to realize for themselves that punks were not the menacing freaks that the media made them out to be, though, as it usually happens in situations like these, there will the ones that will give the police the excuse needed to step in, in order to disperse the crowd, resulting in riots, like a self-fulfilling prophecy.
