For my birthday I got a bag of historic bank notes from my uncle. He is quite the collector, like myself, but he is currently getting rid of a lot of stuff for personal reasons. At one point the german hyperinflation ot so out of hand that they didn´t even bother with printing money anymore, at least for the "smaller" bank notes. Here they took an old 1000 Mark bill and just rubberstamped  "One Billion Mark" onto it.

A 1000 Mark bil from 1910, German Empire. Even thou this is a larger bill, I don´t think its is as beautyfull as the 100 Mark bill from the same time. The large imperial coat of arms on the backside is amazing thou.

And more hyperinflation money. The upper one is a 20 thousand Mark bill from February 20th 1923, the lower one a 10 Bilion Mark bill from October 1st 1923.

More hyperiflation bank notes. The first is a 500 Mark bill issued by the German Reichsbank in July 7nd 1922, the second one is a 10 billion Mark bill issued by the city of Frankfurt in October 23rd 1923. I think this illustrates pretty good how quickly the vallue of the german currency was deterioration at that time.

Here is a couple of smaller bank notes from WW1 or shortly after. This is basically emergency money since the german economy was in shambles. The one on the upper left is a 25 Pfennig bill issued by the city of Frankfurt in November 1919. The one in the upper right is a 5 Mark bill issued in 1917, right in the middle of the war. The two bills at the bottom are one and two Mark issued in 1920, 100 years ago.
