Sprachschule - Last Day
This is a little bit late, but I might as well finish talking about how this went.
TL;DR - 5/10, but only because of the classmates.
As glowing as my review might have been at the beginning of this, my opinion has no plummeted. We had spent so much time on very basic things (like the alphabet) and yet not enough on other core concepts (like the rest of the orthography; how to say âeuâ properly, etc). I think, in retrospect, that the class was set up like that because it wasnât associated with a university. Most of my classmates decided to take further classes from a university, or to just learn by themselves.
It became very frustrating not covering basic German, and very little time on crucial things. For example, the last two days were spent learning the perfect past tense and then constructing a dialogue almost from scratch. The one bright side I could see was the actual, physical time spent actively practicing German - which helped a lot that everybody was equally as invested in speaking German properly, so on that part we all did improve drastically in terms of developing good speaking habits.
Iâm not sure how this would compare to taking a semester of German in a German university, as Iâve only taken a semester in the U.S., but frankly both textbooks (in the Sprachschule and my American university) were crap and that was made for a lackluster experience. Iâve seen Routledgeâs material, and German for Dummies, and that outstrips the others in quality. Overall, the Internet has better resources, but be able to practice speaking in person was an incredibly important detail that the Internet still has some difficulty perfecting.
Iâm trying to find an English explanation of Satzklammer and Stellungsfelder and found a research article on it, instead đ
