I have been working on a series "People's Basements" is the working title. I live in Kansas, and the basic idea is that basements are tell something significant about the owners. They are rooms that are rarely seen by guests so they are not for show and not staged. Everything in the images are items found in the basement. The green images were of a man who has two kids (shown in the images) that play college or high school football and have always had a full weight room in their basement. I used the fluorescent lighting in the room as the key light and used various spot lights on the background and finally their face to light the scene. All the exposures were then blended in Photoshop, similar to how I lit my previous images. Broncolor's GenNext blog has more details about it up now. I exaggerated the green tint of the florescent lights because I want each image to be bold and contrasting to each other. Which of the green images do you think is better? The other shot is one of my favorites. It was shot in a single exposure using a soft lighter directly above the subject and a silver umbrella behind the camera as a fill. Julie has boxes and boxes of weird antiques, Halloween decorations, old toys, you name it. I spread them out on the wall behind her and on the pool table to make this image. I then provoked different expressions with conversation, this was one of the best expressions I thought.
