So I'm not sure I really understand your point. Are you saying that games with pixel art need to be held to some kind of standard? I think it's unfair to say that something shouldn't be allowed to exist because it doesn't look pretty enough, or isn't objectively well drawn. Don't you think that it discourages artists to say that they shouldn't be able to use the art they want for their games just because it's "worse"? Unless something flew over my head, it seems like a very elitist standpoint.
i think people should try.
i can tell that artists didn’t really work on the games i chose, and if there were artists, they weren’t artists well experienced in the field of pixel art. you should always try to have an understanding of what you’re doing before you go out and make a full, retail game. if you wanna test the waters, that’s totally fine- but it’d be smarter to release a game like that for free, and just have donations open or something. i think if a game like undertale was released for free, people (including me) would be a lot less inclined to shit on it, and fuck i’d buy the OST, the music is great.
you should only charge money for something you think is actually worth people’s money. if you don’t think your game is as good as you know it can be, then you should start out free or low. don’t make games just to make money.
