good news / bad news | lucas self para
lucas tapped his fingers against his knee as he sat in his agentâs office, waiting for her to join him. itâd been about a month since the audition and he was supposed to hear back this week, so he assumed that when she had called him in to meet with her, it was about this particular audition. though, the fact that she had called him in rather than just telling him over the phone might not be the best sign. in the past few years there were certain things about his agent lucas had come to know very simply, and that she preferred to deliver bad news in person was one of them. thus, the nervous knee tapping.Â
âlucas, honey!â the woman exclaimed as she came in the room, opening her arms for a hug, which lucas was happy to give, standing up from his seat to embrace the woman much smaller than him before resuming his seat as she took hers across from him. âgood news, bad news,â she told him solemnly.
the boy leaned forward slightly. he was supposed to be the dramatic one, but his agent certainly had that flare for holding things under her belt just long enough to keep him on the edge of his seat. âyeah?â he tried to nudge her along.Â
âthey loved you,â she grinned. âthey want to offer you the male lead,â she gave him an encouraging nod, as lucas let out a sigh of relief. the past few years heâd been working entirely in features. it was just work, but having a show tied down meant the potential of years of consistent work. he was ready for something steady again, and this part was perfect for him.Â
âthe bad news?â he dared to ask, almost cringing as he did so.Â
the woman gave him a sympathetic smile. âwell, they released to me the entire cast list,â she started, easing herself into it. âbrielle edwards is cast opposite you,â she scrunched up her face a little, anticipating any kind of response from her client, but lucas just stared back at her dumbfounded. âi know you two have a bit of a past.â bit would be an understatement, lucas thought to himself. âbut i know you both and iâm sure i can trust you to be civil about this,â she said, though there was a note of warning in her voice. âyou still have the option to turn down the part, but you and i both know how good this show could be for your career,â the note of warning grew stronger in her tone.
âiâll take it,â he responded mildly, not sure what else he could do but consent. he wanted this part more than heâd wanted anything in a while. in fact, the last thing he could remember wanting this badly was her.Â
