I think it might happen in an epilogue? I wouldn't say that there is nothing there, but it's difficult to say what is Jonsa foreshadowing: (like the whole brother-sister dynamic, Gendry almost getting involved with a whore who definitely is another or Robert's bastards, Gendry defending Ary@ etc.)

I agree that Ary@ is not attracted. She is a child after all. We can safely say, that she likes Gendry though. So, I wouldn't say there is no chance it will happen. If it happens though it should happen when Ary@ comes back from her travels and settles down and I would actually like that for her.

It's not mutually exclusive that it can also point towards Gendry@ sometime in the far future. GRRM usually is an efficient writer and uses important scenes in several ways.

I think people should realize that foreshadowing is not necessarily the same as the characters having feelings, or even sexual attraction.

I think there can be no doubt that you can find foreshadowing for Gendry@. There can also be no doubt that they like each other. Maybe Ary@ really has something like a childish crush on Gendry and she can have that without being sexually attracted. Something innocent if you wish.

We don't see Gendry's thoughts but I doubt that the crush is mutual. He definitely likes Ary@ and that could lead to him falling for her when they meet again, at some point in the future when they will be reunited as adults.

As I see it it is more about the potential for the future. You know like a couple that has know each other in school. "Remember how I always wanted you on my team in sports" or "Remember that one time when we had the snowball fight?" or in their case "Remember that one time we ran together from Harrenhal?"

These things get meaning in hindsight. Right now they may lead to something or they may not. Since GRRM is an author who loves his foreshadowing I think chances are high that Gendry and Ary@ will be an item in the books, that they will meet as adults - maybe after Ary@ has returned from her adventures or maybe Gendry will go with her.

There is also the possibility that the interaction of Gendry and Ary@ points towards other relationships but I actually doubt that this is the only reason for it being there.
