I’m probably being moronic but who is John Brown?

John Brown is an American Icon™, though not as much as he should be.

In short, he was a bible-thumping, gun-toting madman, but one who put his madness to work against the Institution of Slavery. He also did his best to assist free blacks when and where he could. His most famous acts were taking part on the anti-Slavery side of the Bleeding Kansas conflicts that served as a prelude to the Civil War (when pro and anti slavery settlers in the Kansas territory duked it out in brushfire wars and raids that saw both sides be pretty brutal, but the anti-slavery people were anti-slavery, so they come out better on the other side), and then he led a raid on the Federal Armory at Harper’s Ferry in 1859, with the intent to seize the muskets there (100,000) and arm slaves with them, leading them on a county by county liberation effort - though he wasn’t planning on massacring the slaveowners if they didn’t fight or anything.

Unfortunately, his plan failed, he was captured, tried and executed, and ended up dying a martyr in many northern eyes.

It doesn’t really matter. If this is in reference to the “ If you ship one of my NOTPs - have a nice day. Just - not in front of me. “ rule, it’s not meant to require anything of anyone, more ageneral expression of - I don’t like my NOTPs, but you can like them, and I’ll just do my thing elsewhere.

I do follow some people who ship ships I dislike, and just use blacklisting and the like to avoid those posts.

That said, a non-exhaustive list of the ships that go beyond just ‘do not like’ to the truly viscerally negative level required for ‘notp’ includes:

This is the desktop version, but you can do the same thing on mobile.  And what you add in one is for your account, so it will go across mobile and browser.

First things first, go to the little person icon to bring up the Account Menu.  Then clicks on Settings.

Next, scroll down to the Filtering section.

Click in that box and type whatever tags you want to avoid.

When you’re ready, if ever, to remove the tags so you can see those posts again, go into the same place, then click Remove.  

Easy peasy!

Damn. Never before heard him mentioned. All of American history I get is off tv or if there was a crossover with English history from school. But we didn't even learn about civil war at school and the part uk had to play in it so we really don't learn much about america

@gemini-rose There’s a lot we don’t learn about the UK in American schools, so fair is fair. 

And while the UK played a role, especially in things like the Trent Affair, to the point that the most common cause for ‘Southern Victory’ in the Alternate history genre is British Intervention, it was a pretty small one, so its not really surprising it’s not a focus.

I mean, seriously, ask your average non-Irish American* what they think about say... Oliver Cromwell, or the Trial of Charles I or the Glorious Revolution... you’re mostly gonna get a lot of empty stares.

@gemini-rose - Fitz did die.  However, in the first part of Season 5, the way he got to the rest of the group on The Lighthouse was by going into cryo-sleep in that pod and basically waiting for 70ish years.  When the team got back to present day, that Fitz-in-the-cryo-pod was still basically out there in space waiting to get to The Lighthouse.  So, what they’re doing now is going to find that Fitz.  When they find him, it will be a Fitz that just came out of the Framework, then spent months in custody of General Hale, and finally met up with Hunter and Enoch.  But this won’t be the Fitz that has seen Jemma again, proposed, and gotten married.  He will have been hearing The Doctor in his head, but not seeing him yet.  So the team basically decided that they’re going to ignore his death and go find that Fitz.

And I love the CA/anyone coz so many people love him but I see him as a high-horse, Holier-then-Thou, Im-always-right-&-good-everyone-else-wrong douchebag

Yup. He’s basically America. Which is why I’m always surprised when foreigners (especially ones who, in posts abour RL topics, condemn american foreign policy, usually with good reason) hold him up as this amazing high ideal.

I agree so much with Skye/Coulson. They are a daddy/daughter relationship and shipping them as anything else is gross. Also love that you called her Skye. Can’t stand the name change to Daisy. Just doesn’t fit into what her character was for 1st 2 season
