What if ‘’Gem Love’’ is a malfunction?
The show established that when Gems are born they know what they are and what their purpose is right? And fusion doesn’t have to be a romantic/sexual bond between 2 or more Gems (like with Smokey Quartz, the Rubies and others). So love (or our version of it) has no logical place in Homeworld Gems yet it happened and that makes one wonder why? Or how for that matter as well because why would genderless space rocks need love?
As the show has shown Gems are capable of learning, of evolving as a person so they can learn about it and while that might explain the how it doesn’t explain the why. Perhaps, and this could be a stretch, the love that some Gems feel is a ‘’malfunction’’ of some sorts. I have no idea how that might have happened but it’s an interesting angle to take. That Gems really don’t need love yet happened with a few, as if they are malfunctioning in some way.
