😱😩 - an emoji in pants shitting fear. it's feeling the thunderous boom of a long distance explosive projectile in their proximity. the sound is reminiscent of perhaps a meteor. yes you have warning, thank god. but what about the many others who don't?

😵‍💫😟 - an emoji face in a dazed expression and a grimace. lots of things are passing through their mind and not all of them are coherent. even fewer are pleasant

🫩🫨 - a deeply exhausted emoji seen through the multiplying haze of sleep deprivation and unfocused eyes. the headlines all blur together as you absorb the updates minute by minute, but there's a gnawing feeling in your chest. there's the lurch in your gut when you realize that it truly is an escalation in the wider sense. more people will be exposed to, hurt by, traumatized by, and killed by the terrors of armed conflict. you're still supposed to do your laundry and eat healthy and take out the trash and oh look. another siren. you'll be fine as long as you don't dwell on the human suffering and implications too much.

😢☹️ - this emoji has dwelled on the human suffering and implications too much. you don't even realize that you're crying. fragmented memories of the wails of grief flash through your mind. images of tons of rubble trapping warm bodies losing heat. bodies of people that never deserved to meet their end this way. the grief ripples out and you too are caught in the wave. you allowed the sadness to pierce the protective apathy that society encourages you to develop. it escapes from you by your tears, and then keep flowing.

🫩😮‍💨 - this emoji sighs but it brings no relief. the imagination dwells until the next notification pops up to share updates that will determine what you will feel next. you start forgetting why you ever had hope, and see with greater clarity why those who have given up on peace or progress did so.
