Can we hear more about the zombie au? -fan
Fan, I really hope you’re keeping well! This has taken far too long to actually get to. And it has taken a stupid turn, I am so sorry. I think it is safe to say that my brain is fried.
A very loose continuation of this.
So, after Gavin gets back, bitten but not turned, hopes were high. They tried to do everything in their power to derive the reason Gavin was immune to the virus. Blood samples were taken almost daily, much to his grumbling. But if Gavin was the source of the cure, he wasn’t going to complain about being a little anaemic for a while. However, nothing seemed to work. The boffins were murmuring about having to try in on a live sample, that might shed more light on the issue.
It took a lot of planning but eventually, a zombie was corralled into the interrogation room. Thankfully nobody was bitten and, for now, they had a zombie to experiment on. He was a restless soul, raged at being poked and prodded by the scientist, injected with Gavin’s blood, with derivatives of it, with cultures grown from it. Nothing seemed to help.
Of course, things couldn’t go on indefinitely. A zombie was still a dangerous creature, one who wanted to feast on flesh and spread its disease. All it took was one mistake and it was loose, rampaging through the DPD on the hunt for flesh. The androids tried to keep the humans safe but Gavin wasn’t going to play damsel in distress while others saved the day. He barrelled into the fray, confident that even if he got bitten, it would only hurt.
Somehow, against all odds, he ended up with the zombie on his back arms wrapped around him as it tried to gnaw at his neck. Pissed off and desperate to get it off, Gavin resorted to a panicked struggle, especially as the arm was close to his throat. His own arms pinned to his side, he did the only thing he could, turned his head and sank his teeth into the offending arm.
A howl went up from the zombie as it let got and stumbled away from Gavin. It was the first time anyone had seen a zombie back down. Unfortunately, Gavin was too busy spitting and gagging to notice what everyone else was captivated by. Minute by minute, the zombie was starting to look less decomposed, less crazed for flesh. The virus was dying off rapidly, leaving behind a very confused and very stressed but healthy human.
It didn’t take long for the scientists to figure it out from there. The virus spread by biting, it wasn’t a blood borne virus but one that was carried by spit. So it only made sense that the cure and resistance to it was through saliva too. From then on, Gavin wasn’t poked and prodded with needles. Instead, he had to drink a lot and occasionally spit in a test tube.
Saving the world, it turned out, was not all the difficult after all.
