Track #3-41: Well done, Samus!
NOTE: No YouTube upload available.
Artist: garlagan
Original: Record of Samus by Kenji Yamamoto and Kouichi Kyuma
Length: 2:53
Metroid Prime's 'Record of Samus' got a chill, downbeat remix in the style of the song it is itself a remix of, 'Tallon Overworld', on the very first album; memorably, the song before it was in fact 'Tallon Overworld'. garlagan's new remix divorces the song from its sister (parent? Best not to think too deeply about it) tune and gives it an uptempo electronic remix that hews closer to the original. This remix takes specific influence from the version of the song that featured in Metroid: Samus Returns.
I like this one's energy. Despite being under three minutes, the song feels longer, and not in a bad way. The peppy, excited feeling fills the remix to bursting, while still feeling grand and triumphant like the original does. I like how the synths replicate orchestra sections like brass and strings in different parts. The way the synths harmonize is great too. Finally, the ending lets the bubbly feeling evaporate in a very satisfying way. This was a song I didn't expect to rate as highly as I did, but after a long, tiring day, it was the perfect remix to lift the spirits.
