Deep in the heart of Chicago resides The Hotel Échecs, owned and operated by the inheritors, Tristan and Angelique St. Croix. Bored with endless wealth and equally unlimited materials, the siblings have taken their life’s entertainment into their own hands. 

Situated three levels underground beneath The Hotel Échecs, the St. Croixs have manufactured something of a game arena. Eight square cells — whose back walls form an octagon — make up the pawns’ stations. Beyond these back walls is the playing field, where horrors unlike anything the players have ever imagined await them. Some may be lucky, others will fall. Who will be chosen? Who will break? All that’s left to do now is wait and see what the ultimate chess game has in store…
