miraculously conceived less than a year after his father's abdication and mother's coronation as the sole sovereign queen of ferelden, prince gareth theirin mac tir was born in the small hours of the morning in late summer, after weeks of uncharacteristically heavy rainfall churned through the amaranthine ocean and subsequently flooded the drakon river.

while nobility and the chantry quarreled privately amongst themselves over the out-of-wedlock birth of the prince, the smallfolk of denerim and broader ferelden were overjoyed. much as his father's birth was, gareth's arrival was a blessing from andraste herself and beacon of hope for a nation steeped in tradition, but in its infancy post-occupation, so soon after tragedy.

gareth's early days as a newborn and years were fraught with frequent and chronic illness. days were often spent laid up in his nursery, where his queen mother, nursemaid, and tutors dutifully tended to his upbringing and development as anora's only son and heir.

gareth's father, cailan, is largely absent physically throughout his life, but the former king turned warden sends letters and gifts for their son as often as he can. though cailan means well (and does not have much of a choice as a warden), this does tend to leave his son with more questions than answers. even into adulthood, gareth frequently finds himself left to his own devices, to put the pieces of his father that he knows (but does not necessarily understand) together.

gareth is nearing his eleventh name day when his great uncle, arl teagan, is banished from redcliffe by gereon alexius; he accompanies his queen mother to redcliffe in her address of the inquisition and rebel mages seeking safe harbor. he is noted to be a spirited, well-mannered, and handsome young boy of significant intellect.

shortly thereafter, gareth becomes the squire of the guard-captain of denerim's city watch. though he will never possess a formal knighthood, it is here that he navigates his way around the battlefield, and discovers that he is a biiiiit of a crack shot with a bow.

as of the start of veilguard, gareth is nearly 21 years old and restless. and in a typical restless theirin gene pool fashion, he leaves denerim and makes for tevinter to help look for solas. don't ask me how or why he even knows to go there, i haven't gotten that far. lmao.

I'm sure Angel Village had some area-specific traditions. Some might be similar to G.U.N. traditions, given that the territory was once split by both kingdoms! The main things that come to mind are memorials for specific events in the village's history and some more observed days for their primary values (utmost loyalty to one's family, celebrations of love and joined souls, etc.).

Some knights would have some other traditions! Namely Sir Tristan and Sir Bors, since neither grew up in Avalon. They would bring over some ideas or practices from their own original kingdoms (also applies to Enid, Yseult, Guin, and Vivien). Otherwise it's mainly the worldwide religious celebrations!

Gareth, like her siblings, appreciated nature and all its bountiful gifts. Gawain treasured the sky, Gaheris favored the trees, and Gareth loved the ground. She loved the grass beneath her feet and the solidity of the earth. There were times when she would take a moment and stand in place, feeling the wind rush around her, and imagine roots growing from the soles of her boots, down into the ground, connecting her to everything else.

But there was one thing that soothed Gareth more than solid ground; running water held such a divine beauty that she could spend hours at the stream, watching the water flow by, turning over pebbles and splashing where land and water met.

She never could completely express why water soothed her so. Rain had a similar effect, but not nearly as strong as that of the stream.

Because Gareth is the sweetest, most loving person in that castle, and yes, I'm including Gaheris in that assessment. Gareth has the kindness that bubbles over, the type that soothes the people around her and makes them smile, and she does not fear or turn away from interaction.

Gareth will reach out to anyone she can if she feels that they are feeling off. She's very good at determining a person's true emotions, hence her monkier: The Aura Knight.
