Although there were a few forgettable guits that came before it, this particular guitar was the *real* start of it all. 1985 G&L S-500 which I spotted in a classified ad in the paper - so that gives you an idea of how long ago we’re talking, here. 😬 Showed up to have a look at it and honestly didn’t know what to think - actually found the thing pretty ugly at first, and *almost* walked away. The guy selling it had no amp, so I couldn’t play it or plug it in. Went ahead and bought it, reluctantly, brought it home ... and plugged in. Just back in from a desperately-needed setup: this lovely mid ‘80s G&L S-500. Playing far better this morning than it has in decades, probably! My first “real” guitar - and the one that really ignited my appreciation for the works of Leo Fender - was one of these in clear red (hint: I’ve posted pics of that one earlier in my feed). I always thought at the time that it’d be cool to one day find one in clear blue. And ... it happened! 🤓 Thanks to the fine folks at @patrunoguitarrepair for bringing this one back to life.
